Review by Evelyn (3/5)

It’s important to note that this is a serial, so the books are all pretty swift and fast-paced – and if I’m honest, that’s not really my preferred format. I prefer a bit more depth to my books. Having said that, Lovell & Cole are both excellent writers, so I thought I’d give this a chance, especially with its filthy premise.

This was basically an establishing shot, really building up the plot for the upcoming releases, rather than much happening in it. It was hot – it always is with these two authors – but I was left feeling a little cold towards it as, to me, it felt like it was just going in and ticking a load of erotica boxes. I want a little more originality, and I want my underwear to be blown off me.

I’m still not 100% sure who the two heroes are, which was my main gripe. Aside from the physical descriptions at the beginning, there was just nothing throughout the pages to remind me who was who, so I struggled to visualise a little.

Despite that, this is a worthy opener to this intriguing new serial, and my expectations are still high for its sequels.

REVIEW: Coach by Alexa Riley

coachCoach by Alexa Riley
Series: Breeding #1
Genre: erotica

Retiring from the NFL was the right decision, and at thirty years old, I’ve done things most people could only dream of. After all I’ve accomplished, coaching high school football should be easy…but when you’ve got a distraction in the form of a nerdy girl with curves, things can get complicated.

She’s a student, she’s barely legal, and she’s my best friend’s daughter.

I didn’t know what desire was until Megan. I had no idea obsession could drive someone insane, until I saw her. I wasn’t prepared for the fact that once I laid eyes on Megan my life would really begin.

I have to have her, no matter what the cost. I have to breed her and bind her to me so tightly she can’t ever get away. She’ll be mine, even if I have to take her.

Warning: this book is ridiculous, over the top, completely unbelievable, and pretty much just about breeding the heroine. If you’re okay with that, welcome to my dirty, dirty book! Just remember, I warned you.

Heat: 4/5
Rating: 2/5

Pure, unashamed erotica. There’s not really much else to say here. It was hot and well-written, served its purpose, but (unsurprisingly) had no substance.

If you fancy a short, kinky read to get yourself off, especially one which has a breeding focus, then this is the book for you. If you want substance, emotion and characters to care about, probably best avoid.

Over the top insta-love trash.

Review: Call Me Daddy – Jade West

jwcallmedaddybookcover6x9_bw_highCall Me Daddy by Jade West
Series: standalone
Genre: erotica

I want him to be my first.
I want him to be the one.
I want him to be my everything.

I didn’t expect to spend my eighteenth birthday stranded in the pouring rain with no way to make it home.
I didn’t expect to be rescued from the worst night of my life by the most amazing man I’d ever seen.
His name is Nick, and he says he wants to take care of me, says he’ll look after me, says I don’t need to be alone anymore.
He treats me like a princess, like the fragile little girl he saved from the cold.
But I like him… I like him like that.
I’ve never liked anyone like that before…

And it’s weird, this thing we have…
It’s like I can’t decide how we’re supposed to be… what we are…
Until he says the words…
Call me Daddy.

If Daddy smut is your kink, dive right in. If not, this definitely, definitely is not the book for you.

Where to begin? I guess I’ll start with the customary ubiquitous warning over Jade’s filth. This isn’t for the faint of heart. Particularly this one. If you didn’t get it from the title, it’s about a daddy fetish. So don’t go reading this and then get all butthurt because you find it offensive/disgusting.

I’ll continue by saying I’m an open-minded individual, and like to think I’m a bit kinky. However, I did find the daddy bit slightly weird. I was confused for much of the time as to whether I should be cringing or masturbating. This read was really a whole lot of both, if I’m honest. The problem is that Jade is an expert in the anatomy of a sex scene; only she can make piss sexy, and despite the slightly cringy daddy fetish, I have to admit that the way she wrote it made it a fuckload of hot. 5/5 hot. One-handed-read hot. Vibrator-ran-out-of-battery hot.

So this was, basically, a fairly quick dirty romp, with enough character depth and development for me to actually get stuck in and want to savour this rather than read it to feed my imagination’s wank bank. I have to say it was a little quick at the beginning for me, and I found the immediate attachment a bit unhealthy/verging on the dreaded insta-love. But, aside from that, I loved the storyline of two people finding what they need in one another, and learning the balance in life. Similarly, I loved the underlying theme of finding the courage to go against society’s norms.

Overall, this was exactly what Daddy ordered, and Daddy knows best.

Genre: erotica

Five years ago, we’d been together and on fire, but the flames burned us both. Now she’s back in my life and is all my wildest fantasies in the flesh.

I want her. The desire is too powerful to argue against, but I’m not interested in what we had. This is an arrangement about pleasure and finding out who we are behind closed doors. There won’t be talk of love or any sweet nothings whispered by either of us.

This time, I’ll control the heat and make sure neither of our hearts get too close to the flames.

“Nnnnnnnngggg” was the noise I sort of kept making when reading this.

A handshake? Was he for fucking real? I gave his dick a handshake with my vagina just a week ago.

I got about 80% of the way through this book and then had to take a break to argue with myself. It was a choice between putting the book down to pull out some certain toys, or continuing to consume the words on these pages. The latter won. THAT’S how much I enjoyed this book.

It was an obscene art display and I didn’t want to blink. Didn’t want to miss a fraction of a second.

Honestly, this series just goes from strength to strength, and I am really hoping that the next instalment explores Julius (pretty please, Nikki?). These characters are wonderful, these sex scenes are SMOKIN’, and these relationships are, without fail, ones to fully invest in and want to play out to the end. I love the involvement of my favourite previous characters from the series, especially in that it never seems forced.

Aw, fuck. The vision of my cum painted on her sexy breasts was too enticing to say no to.

As ever, I cannot wait for the next one. Hit me up, my Kindle needs more steam!

What the fuck did I just read?

It’s funny how it gets easier each time to kill. I try to keep this beast tamed, but self-control is no longer on my side.

Okay. Here goes. This is an extraordinarily difficult review to write, and I debated long and hard about the rating – because I genuinely found myself engrossed in this story. But there were a few things that just remained in the back of my mind the entire time I was reading it. I’ll write this review a little differently from normal.

The good bits
– Gore. Lots of gore.
– Shock factor. And it takes a lot to shock me nowadays.
– Successfully combining erotica with horror and making me incredibly confused about my reactions. Like, the awkward moment you realise you have a lady boner when someone’s being fucked so hard they pretty much die.
– Originality.

Staring at both bodies, one still breathing and the other slowly falling to death, I feel consumed by the darkness. There is nothing that can bring me back from Lucifer’s playground.

The bad bits
– This was too short; I wanted a slower build, and more suspense before the climax.
– I never really got to know the characters other than their utter psychopathy.
– I hate flashbacks. With a burning passion. They never fit seamlessly with the text.
– It was a little bit messy (and I’m not talking about the gore). The descriptions were sometimes pretty complex and it was difficult to grasp what was going on. There was no pacing; it was all gore and horror and bizarrely erotic creppy-ass sex (and creepy ass sex).

The worst bit
-It really could have done with a decent proofread. I can forgive ARCs, trusting that errors will be picked up, but I do expect a little more when I purchase a book.

“Let me be clear that you are about to step into my dark fantasy. I don’t know if you’ll make it to the other side with me because I don’t do any safe words. I only do what my body forces me to do. You have no control anymore, Slave. You are now just a piece of meat for me to play with,”

Overall, a crazily enjoyable, original, WTF storyline that will please fans of the pitch black genre, despite being hampered somewhat by its fast pacing, errors and underdeveloped characters.

Review: Her Master’s Courtesan – Lily White

her-masters-courtesanHer Master’s Courtesan by Lily White
Series: Masters #1
Genre: dark erotica

I am a Master.

You must know this fact to understand my story.

I capture women.

I break them down.

And I rebuild them.

If they are lucky, they are sold into the professional hands of another Master. If they are less fortunate, they are buried beneath the ground, never to be thought of again.

I lust for the control, I demand absolute submission and my body yearns to warp the minds of those I train.

Power is the only thing I’ll ever need and I am addicted to the feeling of ultimate control.

I am wealthy, good-looking, educated and charming.

And I am – in no way – a good man.

I do not want love.
I do not want kindness.

She thought she could change me by giving me the two things I knew I never wanted.

She was wrong.

This was one fucked up ride.

Piece by piece, I would strip her of the things she once found pleasurable until she was left utterly devoid of happiness.

From the outset, I’m going to tell you why this only got four instead of five stars. Because I enjoyed it/was intrigued by it enough for a five star rating. It’s pretty simple: there were too many typos, and this could really benefit from a more thorough proofreading. Unfortunately that does affect my enjoyment of a book – and in ARCs, I will ignore it, trusting that it will be proofread before publishing. But when I purchase a book, I do have to comment. Anyway, enough with my gripe. Onto the good bits.

“I like breaking strong women, it’s more of a challenge and I feel more powerful as a result.”

I had to create a new shelf under ‘degradation’ for this, because humiliation just wasn’t cutting it. This is the darkest book I’ve ever read that isn’t part of the horror genre. And not only is it the darkest – by far – but it’s also probably one of the hottest, wonderfully fulfilling that fantasy many of us have at the back of our minds. Aiden was fucked up. Rebecca was fucked up. The sex was fucked up.And yet when I was reading this book, I just could not put it down. Although it’s slightly more difficult to get hold of because the fuckers at Amazon banned it, I’d absolutely recommend hunting a copy down on Smashwords if you’re a fan of the dark genre. This won’t disappoint.

I loved it when a woman begged, when she was pushed to a point where her insecurities and moralities were extinguished inside her – when all she wanted was to fuck and be fucked because her body demanded it.

Above all, what I found the most intriguing about this was that Aiden isn’t a hero. And he can’t be described as an anti-hero either. He’s vile, awful and a liar, and still manages to be utterly compelling. I commend Lily White for writing such a character, and not falling into the typical happily ever after trap with all the loose ends tied up neatly.

This is messy and raw. And oh-so-brilliant.

It’s always super-difficult to rate short bonus books – and a 4 is the highest I’ll ever go. This one absolutely deserves that, and honestly tempted me to break my own rule and rate it a 5. But clearly I have more self-control than Logan and Evie!

“And maybe I just want a wedding so afterward I can tear the dress off of my wife on our wedding night and fuck her like the dirty girl she is.”

Anyway, this will be a short review, but I’m pretty sure Nikki Sloane writes THE hottest sex scenes around, and I need to change my underwear right about now. It’s a novella you can easily read in one sitting (unless, like me, you have to take a particular sort of break now and then), and it’s a beautiful conclusion to the relationships explored in the first two instalments.

Absolutely worth picking up and paying the 99c/p for!

Review: Good Sick – Sansa Rayne

good-sickGood Sick by Sansa Rayne (aka Sasha Rich)
Series: standalone
Genre: erotica
Themes: BDSM

“They called it a cult. I called it home.”

I don’t regret running away from home six years ago. I wound up at Good Souls, a secluded farm where I could fight my dark, dirty impulses and remain pure. I knew that soon I would receive the ultimate reward: ascension straight to heaven. Then the police raided our farm and took everything away. They called it being “rescued.”
I had nothing: no family or friends, just an empty apartment in New York. The other women from the farm barely spoke to me. Our leader, Brady Booker, was missing, and my therapist wanted to convince me my sexual urges were normal, and that ascension was a lie.
For so long I believed my hunger for discipline and restraint was the work of demons tempting me to sin. Then I met Mason. Dominant and handsome, he made me feel good… even if I am sick…

For ten years I’ve been on the hunt, trying to fix a mistake that cost me everything. Obsessed with righting the wrongs of my past, I lost touch with my friends and family; I lost my badge; I lost all semblance of a normal life.
I never should have let Abigail Lamb get under my skin. Just when I’d caught a break, when I thought the end was in sight, she stood in my way. Beautiful, but brainwashed, her tragic past and thirst for submission drew me in and held on tight. I couldn’t resist, even if it meant jeopardizing my mission.
Now I have no choice. I can’t let her go, not until I get what I need. I’m going to finish what I started, even if that means becoming a monster…

Publisher’s note: “Good Sick” is a psychological, new adult dark romance story with explicit sexual content, including BDSM practices, with no cliffhangers, no cheating and a HEA.

Watch out, Abbi, I thought in Brady’s voice. The demons are going to be coming for you.
Let them come.

This is the first book I’ve read by Sansa Rayne/Sasha Rich – and I found it thrilling and steamy. It has a wonderfully original plot, following the life and re-intergration of Abigail in society, after she is rescued from a cult. It’s aninteresting concept, and I enjoyed the BDSM interlinking with this brainwashed mentality.

The sex scenes were clearly written from someone who knows her stuff, and this was absolutely one hot read – apart from the use of euphemisms like “orifice” and “rod” (I’m afraid to say I’m a pussy/cunt/cock/dick kinda girl)!

She was my kind of sick, and I couldn’t let that go.

The reason I can’t rate this book any higher is that, despite the brilliant plot and the potential for greater things, Rayne has a tendency to fall into the telling, not showing category of writers – describing sexual acts (and general plot events) physically, but not quite delving into the emotional, internal aspect and properly conveying the characters through the medium of reading.

There was a lot that could have been covered here, and I wanted a little more detail into the mental aspect and rehabilitation of Abigail, both with Mason and her therapist; it all happened perhaps too quickly and neatly to have been fully believable.

“The agony of the body feeds the serenity of the soul.”

Absolutely worth a read, this is an author I’m excited about following, and about watching her writing style develop. Let’s hope for more emotion (and actually more darkness, too) in future works.
