Tour & Review: Savage Mafia Prince – Annika Martin

savagemafiaprince-1600x2400newSavage Mafia Prince by Annika Martin
Series: Dangerous Royals #3
Genre: dark erotica

Where is Kiro?

He’s the lost Dragusha brother, heir to a vast mafia empire—brilliant, violent, and utterly savage…and he’s been missing for years.

I’m supposed to be doing simple undercover research at the Fancher Institute for the Mentally Ill & Dangerous, but I can’t keep my mind off Patient 34. He’s startlingly young and gorgeous, but it’s not just that. He’s strapped way too tightly to that bed. And there’s no name or criminal history on his chart. What are these people hiding? My reporter’s instincts are screaming.

Here’s the other thing: the staffers here believe he’s so sedated that there’s not a thought in his head, but I catch him watching me when nobody’s looking. Our connection sizzles when I enter the room. When our eyes meet, I know he understands me in a way nobody else ever has.

I’m supposed to follow my editor’s orders—I have secrets, too—but everything about Patient 34 is suspicious. How can I not investigate?

Reviewer’s note: this is the third instalment of the Dangerous Royals series. I would highly recommend starting from the beginning with Dark Mafia Prince.

I’ve always admired people who decide on a direction and go for it against all odds. The rebels, the heretics, the true believers, the doomed warriors.

The final (and most eagerly awaited) book in Martin’sDangerous Royals series, this follows the third and final brother, Kiro, after he has awoken the interest of Bloody Lazarus. Although it is a departure from the darker nature of the rest of the series, I actually enjoyed this one much more, due to its originality and Martin’s perfect characterisation of Kiro, and deep sensory descriptions of the forest and wildlife.

Though few, the sex scenes had enough animalism and passion in them to get my heart pounding – I just wish there had been a few more. Perhaps it’s my pervy self speaking, but this series has felt like it should be super sexy, yet always slightly let itself down in that department.

He’s a force of nature. Pure aliveness. Pure power. He’s the most ferociously hot thing I’ve ever seen. The most dangerous thing I’ve ever seen.

I found that I could imagine Kiro’s character, his quiet but brutal nature, absolutely brilliantly in my mind, the way his eyes, his face and his actions expressed much more than words, with the juxtaposition of the PTSD-suffering journalist, Ann, whose life revolved around them. This was a deeper level and I loved watching how their relationship and understanding of one another grew. I particularly enjoyed the detailed descriptions of survival methods, and learning about both characters’ backstories.

I’ve also very much enjoyed the POV chapters from Lazarus, particularly in regards to his relationship with his business guru, and how absurdly brilliant an idea this was on Martin’s part.

“I wanted to rip his face off, and then fuck you in front of everyone.”

This was a satisfying, original ending to a series that has successfully changed tone and theme, from dark and mafia to more suspenseful and thoughtful. In some respects, however, the big difference between this and the others has dampened my enjoyment of the first two – now feeling like they were simply a prolonged build-up to this. Regardless, it’s nice that the mystery has been solved and the loose ends come together, and this is a series I would absolutely recommend.

REVIEW: Savage Things – Callie Hart

At the eye of a violent storm, everything is calm. It’s only when the storm shifts that your life explodes into chaos.

The $#*& is finally about to hit the fan for Zeth. After months of blissful quiet, the wolves are at his door, teeth bared and snarling, baying for blood, and the sinister elements of the Seattle underground are closing in tight. In other words, things are about to get bad. Real fucking bad.

Zeth Mayfair isn’t your average criminal, though.

If the New York mob wants his allegiance, they’re gonna have to force him to submit. If the cops want his ass in chains, they’re gonna have to catch him first.

He’ll kill the wolves. He’ll ride out the storm. He’ll make his enemies suffer. Zeth Mayfair is about to crown himself ruler of the city, and fuck anyone who dares to take on the king.

They will obey, or they will fall.

The choice is theirs.

Death is a bitch.

Sloane Romera sees death every day, looks it square in the eye, and she does not flinch. When Mason Reeves brings his little sister into St. Peter’s emergency room, a dark cloud hangs over the kid—one Sloane recognizes all too well. Millie is gravely ill, but it’s not too late. Sloane’s determined to do everything in her power to help her, regardless of the cost, regardless of how many rules she must break in the process.

Mason’s struck a deal with the devil, though. A deal that has painted a huge target on Sloane’s back. There’s every chance she’ll be dead by morning, and the man she loves might not be able to save her this time.

If there’s one thing Sloane knows, it’s that you can’t cheat death. When the Grim Reaper demands a life, a life must be given. Bargaining won’t work. Begging is futile.

A life for a life.

The debt must be paid in full.

Savage Things (Chaos & Ruin Book 2)

Title: Savage Things
Author: Callie Hart
Series: Chaos & Ruin #2
Genre: MC, erotic romance, thriller
Heat: 4/5
Plot: 4/5
Rating: 4/5

NB: This is the second instalment in Callie Hart’s Chaos & Ruin series, the sequel to the Blood & Roses series. For full enjoyment and immersion, it is best to delve into this universe from the beginning.

Once again, Callie Hart takes us on a suspenseful, romantic, sexy and emotional journey in her latest novel. I really cannot get enough of Zeth and Sloane’s relationship and adventures, and with a highly strong, complex supporting cast (both the good guys and the bad guys), populating one of the most tightly planned and well-executed universes out there. Every time I read one of these books I feel overwhelmed at how brilliant it is.

This particular instalment is perhaps one of the least suspenseful, but turns back into a much more emotional read, allowing us to see the more vulnerable sides of Zeth and Sloane, along with the secondary characters Michael and Mason. Hart once again pulls no punches, with the brutality she writes so well.

It’s an intriguing direction this series is being taken in, and has opened up a number of further questions to be answered in the coming instalments (and, of course, potential for further series set in this addictive universe). I’m very appreciative of Zeth’s actions in the ending, which for me was surprising in the best possible way, and is testament to how Hart does not conform to romance tropes whilst still managing to involve real romance and progression in these characters’ lives and relationships.

TOUR & REVIEW: Salvatore – Natasha Knight

It all started with a contract signed by him, then by me, while our families watched. While my father sat silent, a man defeated, giving his daughter to the Benedetti monsters.

I obeyed. I played my part. I signed my name and gave away my life. I became their living, breathing trophy, a constant symbol of their power over us.

That was five years ago.

Then came the time for him to claim me. For Salvatore Benedetti to own me.

I had vowed vengeance. I had learned hate. And yet, nothing could have prepared me for the man who now ruled my life.

I expected a monster, one I would destroy. But nothing is ever black or white. No one is either good or evil. For all his darkness, I saw his light. For all his evil, I saw his good. As much as he made me hate him, a passion hotter than the fires of hell burned inside me.

I was his, and he was mine.

My very own monster.

I owned the DeMarco Mafia Princess. She belonged to me now. We had won, and they had lost. And what better way to teach a lesson than to take from them that which is most precious? Most beloved?

I was the boy who would be king. Next in line to rule the Benedetti Family. Lucia DeMarco was the spoils of war. Mine to do with as I pleased.

It was my duty to break her. To make her life a living hell. My soul was dark, I was hell bound. And there was no way out, not for either of us. Because the Benedetti family never lost, and in our wake, we left destruction. It’s how it had always been. How I believed it would always be.

Until Lucia.

Although it started off on a very strong note, this didn’t quite meet its potential for me. The sex scenes were a little short and the plot pretty predictable, with very little character development present. For a dark read, I’d also have liked it to be even darker. Again, on this note, it started off well (with some particularly humiliating moments, which, if you follow my reviews, you’ll know that I love), but petered out a little after the first third of the novel.

I’d also have liked a little less repetition about feelings and confusion, and a little more focus on the crime issues. I still enjoyed this read, however, despite these personal irritations.

RELEASE & REVIEW – Wicked Mafia Prince – Annika Martin

You were the love of my life.
Beautiful and radiant.
Then you betrayed our mafiya family—the only family we ever knew.
Grief-stricken, I did the honor killing.
Quick and vicious.
Your heart no longer beating. Mine ripped to shreds.
When I discovered you were innocent, I was destroyed.

Now, years later—somehow, impossibly—there you are, alive.
The nun who prays and never shows her face.
Trapped on the other side of a webcam.
How can it be?
They think I’m obsessed. Imagining ghosts.
But I’ll always know you.
I’ll always know my Tanechka.

I’m very much enjoying the criminal world Martin has formed, fully fleshed out with brilliant characters and a fantastic plot. I just wish the instalments were a little longer, allowing the suspense to be drawn out and relationships to slowly come back together. Similarly, it would have been nice to have seen a bit more of Mira in this one. Despite this, I’m absolutely invested in these people and their darkness, the brutality and the romance and comfort found within that. I’m excited to continue within this world, as a lot more can be taken and consumed from it; this series is shaping up to be something great.

REVIEW: Dark Mafia Prince – Annika Martin

Don’t look at me like that. So trusting.
Like you think I’m not a monster.
Like I won’t wrap your hair in my fist and bend you to my will.
Like I won’t sacrifice you, piece by piece, to save my brother.
I’m the most dangerous enemy you’ll ever have because every time you look at me, you see somebody good. That friend who died.
And when you look at me like that, I die again.

I spent years making myself invisible.
A good girl, apart from the noise.
Then you came back, beautiful and deadly in your Armani suit.
Don’t look at me like you still know me, you say.
But I remember your smile and those sunny days.
Before they lowered your small casket into the ground.
Before they told us the prince was dead.

This was absolutely brilliant. Dark, violent and one of a few books which actually makes me feel concerned about the threats to the characters, like they actually may be in danger. The sex scenes were wonderfully dominant and brutal, although I wish there were more, but more than that, I was actually massively engrossed with the Mafia plot and the way the focus was not so much on the romance but on how the relationships affected the characters.

Absolutely one of the best reads of the year. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Series: Mafia Ties #3

A nice wrap-up of Nic and Anna’s very fast-paced insta-love story, the third Mafia Ties instalment was another blast of the warm fuzzies, picking off from the second ends. Where each instalment is so short, the story suffers from being too rushed and the pacing could use some work; the entire focus is on Nic and Anna’s relationship and the mafia sub-plot really has no relevance at all. It would have been nice to have this aspect being given a little more focus.

Fans of the series will be satisfied with this happily ever after, and the knowledge that Brandon and Carly’s story will continue the Mafia Ties series. It does what it is supposed to do: provide a fantasy of instant attraction, love, pregnancy and marriage in the space of a few weeks, with an alpha male (a little too alpha for my opinion, leaving Anna pretty docile) and a close-knit family group.

Okay, this is one of the best series I have ever read. I’m obsessed and engrossed and I really, really cannot wait to see how this all turns out! The second instalment begins exactly where the first ended, questioning Kayden’s involvement with her before her amnesia.

This is fast-paced, highly suspenseful drama, with a slowly but deeply unfurling love story; every single character is immaculately created, the complexity thoroughly thought out. Kayden is already one of my favourite book boyfriends, and I am seriously falling for a fictional character right now. I need more, I need to read on and know all about Ella.

I really cannot recommend this series enough.
