[Review] Destiny Mine by Anna Zaires

39726840.jpg

Fate made us enemies. I made us lovers.

In a different world, we were meant for each other.

This is not that world.

Note: For optimal enjoyment, it’s recommended you read the Twist Me trilogy prior to starting this book.

Darkly beautiful and compelling….

Layer upon layer of suspense and intrigue… who would have thought the tortuous journey though Twist Me would lead to this point…and beyond

The world building is extensive and all encompassing and Peter and Sara are the main focus of the continuing plot…. He has no doubts about what and who he wants and no illusions as to the risks that have to be faced and annihilated, if needs be, to achieve his aims..the coming together of these two has been less than orthodox as he continues with his obsessive need to control and to own .. she has been very much the victim in this story but by no means weak or passive…she is strong and in many ways powerful…

This is a thrilling instalment and the evolving relationship between these two is elemental and darkly beautiful and compelling..it is wrong on so many levels and yet it is perfectly right … I was totally absorbed by this compelling story ….and the cliffhanger ending promises dark days ahead……

[Review] Something Else by Nia Farrell

40212394.jpg

Grace Murphy is the local psychic medium who dreams of her soulmates—Nico White, a bisexual American Indian musician, and J.T. Santiago, an ex-Navy SEAL and former cage fighter with PTSD on top of the guilt that he’s still carrying from other lifetimes that they’ve shared. J.T. is a Dominant, but he’s never had a male submissive and Grace and Nico are a package deal. It’s a learning curve for all of them, with J.T.’s initiation into MMF and MM relations and Grace’s introduction to BDSM. With Grace’s yin, J.T’s yang, and Nico’s center balance, the three of them come together as far as J.T.’s PTSD will allow. But forging a future will mean healing the past, however painful it might be.

An interracial paranormal MMF ménage BDSM erotic romance, this book is written as a standalone, but the epilogue ends with a teaser for the second book in the series. Contains explicit sexual content, written for mature readers. Ages 18+.

Something else…

This is a short paranormal erotic story; really well written with magical characters, and at its heart an unusual love story which spans a multitude of lifetimes…

Grace is a quirky and gifted seer who has been reincarnated many times… I loved the premise .. with the three main protagonists having lived different lives, with different outcomes, in different bodies before this current lifetime… but whilst there were a lot of positives there were aspects of this book that I found disappointing…

Firstly the blurb indicated that the book was to focus on three women and I had anticipated reading a story that incorporated interactions between them..but in fact the other two were only mentioned in passing and had no relevance to the storyline… I was so looking forward to the interactions between them and that did not happen..

Secondly there are times when the narrative dwells on the mystical and reads a bit like an encyclopaedia of astrological and mythological terms; whilst this provided a window into Grace’s world it seemed very detailed for a novella… which brings me on to the final concern I had which is that this was potentially such a great plot and could easily have taken a full length novel to explore the characters and their imagined world..but instead the focus was very much on the steamy and erotic and not enough on development of story or the individual players…

So here is my dilemma..this was an original and fascinating plot which drew me in..but ultimately left me knowing very little about the characters and feeling that they were all just a little bit too amicable and accepting of their situation… The other ‘Graces’ are yet to have their moment in the spotlight and I shall continue to read with interest, and in the hope of something else, or a little bit more…

[Review] Light My Fire by J. Kenner

36420765.jpg

I don’t do relationships.

I’ve lived my life hiding my scars, revealing myself only the in the scripts I write and the characters I voice.

Few people know the real me. I’m too careful. Too afraid of getting burned all over again.

Enter Beverly Martin. A movie star. A woman so beautiful and caring she makes my heart ache. She says she wants me—and her touch almost makes me believe that a girl like her could love a man like me.

But being with her would mean letting the spotlight of fame shine on me, too. And I’m not sure I can do that—even if walking away means losing the woman I love.

Cam and Bev’s story is for the Hollywood stars in us all.

Scarred from an accident when he was young, Cam keeps himself guarded from most of the world. When a script he writes gets picked up as a movie, and he falls for the main lady, he starts thinking that outside appearances aren’t as important as what’s inside (though he still wants his Mr November pictures edited).

One of the cuter stories of this series (and we get to see the Fix! which I felt was missing from some of the others), I loved how Cam and Bev’s story grew both individually and as a couple. I thought the ending was a bit rushed, but I loved the contest scene *swoon*. 4.5 stars!

[Review] Trick Play by Eden Finley

39863941.jpg

Matt:

Want to know the fastest way to get screwed out of a football career? Get photographed in a compromising position in a gay bar. Yep, welcome to my life.

My agent says he can fix my image. He wants me to become the poster boy for gay football players. Me? I just want back on the field. I’ll do anything to play for the NFL again, even pretend to have a steady boyfriend. If only my fake boyfriend wasn’t Noah Huntington III—the most arrogant, entitled rich guy in the world.

Noah:

Pretend to be Matt Jackson’s boyfriend, my best friend said. It’ll be fun, he said. What Damon neglected to mention is Matt is surly and bitter. Being his boyfriend is a job in itself. From his paranoia over being constantly photographed to his aversion to PDA, being with Matt isn’t the care-free fake relationship I expected when I signed on to do this.

It’s supposed to be a win-win. I get to stick it to my politician dad who thinks no one is good enough for the Huntington name, and Matt’s reputation of being the bad boy of football dies.

What I don’t expect is to start caring for the guy. That’s not part of the plan. Then again, neither is fooling around with him on my private jet.

Oops.

Bittersweet……

This was a bittersweet romance…I am not an expert in the politics of sports and the media, but I am aware that the ostracism of a footballer because of his sexual orientation is an unforgivable and destructive reality…however, whilst the serious issues of prejudice and intolerance are embedded in this story, it is not a dark or heavy read…this is a scorching hot love story

Matt’s career, as a tight end for an NFL team, is in ruins and in need of some serious PR assistance.. which comes in the shape of Noah, hired as a fake boyfriend… and who, incidentally, is on a mission of his own……I thought the push pull relationship between these two was genuine, full of conflicted emotions and plenty of light hearted moments, and the growth of their unbidden feelings for each other completely enthralling…two gorgeous and talented guys, with plenty of testosterone between them, who like to get down and dirty together..what’s not to like?

The author has an easy to read style and whilst this wasn’t an action packed read ….the storyline was engaging and held my attention throughout….this is the first book I have read by this author and her books have now been added to my ever growing list of must reads….

Review

Calm before the storm…

This is such a fabulous young adult series: the premise, as far as I am aware, is original and the imagined world wonderfully constructed … I am a big fan of Reverse Harem books and have been for several years…recently there has been an increase in these type of stories but too often the male characters lack individuality or there is a bun fight between them all to identify who should get the girl..but the author has successfully created a perfectly balanced RH with distinct and relatable male leads who are as loyal to each other as they are in love with their girl…. Until this instalment I found the four main guys beguiling, with their super-human powers..but in this instalment their inner conflicts and individualities come to the fore and I have become completely invested in their lives and their relationship with the irrepressible and beautiful Terra…

Terra is under increasing pressure to find answers to so many questions she is pulled in too many directions…some things are becoming clearer some things less certain; I love the ebb and flow of this story… emotions run high as the storyline begins to explore the strength of the eternal bonds between the guys and their queen and I was totally caught up in the drama…… Darkness has arrived; Terra and her four protectors (not forgetting a witch or two thrown in, for good measure) are all that stand between evil and the end of the world…

The climactic cliffhanger ending signals that there is still a tortuous journey ahead, this may be the relative calm before the storm but it does feel like we have reached the beginning of the end rather than the end of the beginning…and I am waiting impatiently for the final stand…

[Review] Family Ties by Stephie Walls

39725038.jpg

With a history like ours, the meaning of the word family tended to tangle into something unrecognizable. DNA and bloodlines didn’t tie us together, and neither did our last names. Various shades of grey blurred the branches of our twisted family tree.

I wasn’t her brother.
They weren’t my parents.
Not that it mattered…

She was off limits.

Portia was my friend.
Then my foster sister.
And she’d always be the love of my life.

Family is a funny word. Some people think it means blood, some people think you choose your own.
For Jude and Portia, it means both.

Put in the foster system at a young age, they both grew up at the Shaw house (Jude going back and forth when his mom was well enough). While the world sees them as siblings, the two have a bond stronger than that. Acting on those feelings, now that they’re all grown up, is harder than it seems.

I loved this story. From start to finish, it tugs at every emotion you can think of. It also draws you in so deep that you don’t even realise you’re reading (which are the best kind of books, let’s be honest). Going between their POV’s, we get a full glance at what exactly their bond is and a beautiful story of true love. 4.5 stars!

Do you take these men?
To honor and obey from this day forth…

Stolen away by dangerous men on a mission.
Dark intentions I don’t understand yet cannot refuse.
Commanded to comply, obey, and serve in every way.
I am captured in a twisted world of not one man…
— but four.
With a pull stronger than anything I have ever known, I march down the aisle compelled to surrender to the darkness.

With these rings… I become their bride to keep.

*This is a standalone full-length dark reverse harem. Dirty taboo with not just one, but four. You may be afraid to walk down the aisle on this one.

Wanton and wicked….

This is the raw and, at times, shocking, story of Monet a seller of magical remedies, hopes and dreams and four bad boy, Irish mobster brothers……

Having grown up in the world of organised crime the four O’Shea brothers are hell bent on revenge and in trying to protect their little sister, Alana, end up entangled with the defiant and mouthy Monet …I do enjoy reading about heroines with some feistiness, and Monet is up there with the best of them….. I feel the authors created a wonderful character in Alana who is the most relatable character: she is a tenderhearted innocent with a tragic backstory… as for the O’Shea’s, in truth there is not much to differentiate between them in terms of personality…met one you’ve met them all…I would have preferred more diversity but since I am a sucker for dirty talking uber protective alpha types I cannot complain too intensely….

Where I do have a complaint is regarding Monet’s acceptance of her situation; she is such a strong character that I felt she acquiesced a little too easily … this was a full length book and so there was time for more of a slow-burn regarding her relationship with the brothers…

Heed the warning, as always, there is a sinister side to this reverse harem….the men are morally corrupt on so many levels and their actions at best overbearing and coercive, but at worst brutal, abusive and murderous; I was particularly horrified by their actions during and immediately following Monet’s capture. ….thankfully, to counterbalance the darkness, there are some sweet and funny moments and of course some seriously wanton and wicked licentiousness ……

All in all this was a dark and twisty romance with a completely unrealistic premise, and yet there was something about it that kept me turning the pages desperate to see how the story of Monet, Alana and the four brothers would turn out in the end …
