The ending is just the beginning …..

A dark and gripping prequel to a new mafia series….this book is all about introductions, beginnings…and endings

Seen mostly through the eyes of Ophelia, the world in which these characters exist is an opulent facade where power and influence is determined by the last, brutal and violent men standing..

Revenge is most definitely not sweet….. and the ending is undoubtedly just the start; I can not wait to begin…

Synopsis

When fierce and independent Vanessa learns her grandmother is sick, she is devastated. To make matters worse, grandma’s will states that to get her inheritance (though money is not a problem for the well-to-do divorce lawyer) she must be settled down.

To get her family off her back, she lies. She neighbour, who she’s been on a friends-with-benefits relationship with for the past year is actually her fiance. Let the wedding plans begin!

Except Josiah knows nothing about these plans. When Vanessa tells him, he has no problem playing along. After all, it’s to make grandma happy and if it makes Vanessa happy too, then he figures it’s a win for everyone… until he realises his affection may be only one sided.

This book keeps you on your toes from start to finish. Hot and heavy to soft and sweet, it has it all. I wish there was more conflict and the epilogue seemed a bit too wrapped up for me, but a great read overall. Jo and Nessa’s story is relationship goals.

Not quite what I expected ….

I loved the first book in the series, which introduced me to two fascinating individuals, their brutal reality, and the path that they navigated to not only survive but be better, and I have been so excited to discover where these characters will find themselves second and the last instalment in this duet..but unfortunately and unbelievably this book has left me conflicted…the author has written about intriguing characters who live in a world where there is little or no room for love…and as far as character development and emotional content goes, she delivered…my heart broke for the loss that Mari Belle and Javi suffered there loss felt raw and real. Further more the conclusion was everything I hoped for, however, there were some aspects that left me disappointed.

First of all this was quite a short story; I read it in one sitting. The page count suggested something longer but more than than a quarter of the book was taken up in extracts from other stories and series. I do like to read about other works by the same author, but I had been expecting more of Marie Belle and Javi’s story than I actually got..

In addition the story felt rushed…the potential drama and suspense was not given time sufficient to develop and I never felt the menace or peril that I associated with the first book…I wanted more darkness, more vengeance, and more sweet revenge…..it felt as if the author had simply run out of steam and it left me feeling cheated ….

Finally and this is a tricky because I do not want to give anything away but I think it is safe to say that Javi has a secret which he keeps until the end and once revealed I honestly felt it was inconsistent with his personality and his responses throughout the book towards both life, and in particular Mari Belle

So a mixed bag…I am glad I went on the journey and the second book had to be read for closure… I shall read more of this author’s books, and would encourage anyone reading this to do likewise, but I am sad this series is over and I am sadder still that the finale was not as grand as I had hoped….

Welcome to the Dark Side by Giana Darling

37706203.jpg

Synopsis

I was a good girl.
I ate my vegetables, volunteered at the local autism centre and sat in the front pew of church every Sunday.
Then, I got cancer.
What the hell kind of reward was that for a boring life well lived?
I was a seventeen-year-old paradigm of virtue and I was tired of it.
So, when I finally ran into the man I’d been writing to since he saved my life as a little girl and he offered to show me the dark side of life before I left it for good, I said yes.
Only, I didn’t know that Zeus Garro was the President of The Fallen MC and when you made a deal with a man who is worse than the devil, there was no going back…

This is Daddy Zeus Garro’s story from Lessons In Corruption. A standalone in The Fallen Men Series.

Everything I expected and so much more…..

This is a beautifully written romance…. that follows the fortunes and misfortunes of the indomitable Louise/Lou and Zeus an MC president and her ‘hero’. This was a wonderful story; and honestly an unexpected treat…if I was to sum it up I would say that it was a book of two halves…the first half isn’t the usual MC story although the premise sits within this genre.. this book starts with a violent beginning and a childhood infatuation, which becomes a slow burning romance; surrounded in darkness but never quite being tainted by it……the second part has everything I was expecting and more with dirty talking tough guys, a brotherhood, a battle to be fought and violence…and some seriously dirty and steamy moments too….

Zeus is deliciously dark and all alpha… an outlaw in the truest and baddest sense of the word… and Lou is a conflicted character, smart, strong and courageous….a chance meeting drew these two very different individuals together, and a determined young girl and fate kept their relationship going…Both have their own battles to fight and both are warriors in their own way….

There were so many great aspects to this story I particularly loved the letters exchanged between the hardened criminal biker and the enchanting child/ young girl with an indomitable spirit..

This was sweet and brutal, suspenseful and funny, heartwarming and heartbreaking, romantic and downright filthy , and I loved it…

Loving this series…

This is the second in the Four Fathers series, which follows the lives, lays and loves of four business partners and friends…

Levi Kingston is a self confessed ‘player’, he believes women are there for his pleasure and his kinks. But, Levi is far more complex than he appears…..history has stolen his compassion… he has no time for his son, let alone a female complication..and Kristyn is a beautiful and tempting complication: his assistant by day and something else at night….

The points of view of both the main characters are provided, which gives a welcome insight into the inner conflicts that the two are facing; the relationship between them is complicated and fragile….which only time, and a few reality checks, has the potential to change..

I am really loving this series, although each story has a different penmanship, the transition from the first book to this one is seamless: roll on the stories of the next two single fathers and their own brand of kinks and romance…

A singer and a cowboy…

Well, I have to be completely up front here and say that I am completely addicted to the Masters and Mercenaries series….so imagine my utter delight when I discover that there is to be a crossover collection with a group of best selling authors and their respective worlds…

Say You Won’t is written by a new to me author although I have had her books on my TBR list for some time, now…. but it mattered not that I had no insight into her world because this book is a standalone novella…

Country and western singer, Emily, meets gorgeous hunk of a cowboy, Cooper; the chemistry can not be denied, but unfortunately their lifestyle and ambitions are too disparate to change or ignore …..however, when a dangerous threat comes to light, Cooper feels a need to protect Emily and when there is trouble on the horizon then ‘who are you going to call?’ McKay/Taggart security, of course…and that is where this book was a little disappointing for me because I had hoped that the link with my M and M heroes would be a bit more central to the story…..

That being said the characters were believable and had depth, despite the length of the book, and I found the story both thrilling and hot… it kept me entertained throughout and I am now going to delve into the next book in the collection..

His To Protect by Carly Phillips

35064652.jpg

Synopsis

Talia Shaw has spent her adult life working as a scientist for a big pharmaceutical company. She’s focused on saving lives, not living life. When her lab is broken into and it’s clear someone is after the top secret formula she’s working on, she turns to the one man she can trust. The same irresistible man she turned away years earlier because she was too young and naive to believe a sexy guy like Shane Landon could want her.

Shane Landon’s bodyguard work for McKay-Taggart is the one thing that brings him satisfaction in his life. Relationships come in second to the job. Always. Then little brainiac Talia Shaw shows up in his backyard, frightened and on the run, and his world is turned upside down. And not just because she’s found him naked in his outdoor shower, either.

With Talia’s life in danger, Shane has to get her out of town and to her eccentric, hermit mentor who has the final piece of the formula she’s been working on, while keeping her safe from the men who are after her. Guarding Talia’s body certainly isn’t any hardship, but he never expects to fall hard and fast for his best friend’s little sister and the only woman who’s ever really gotten under his skin.

Interesting characters and plenty of pace

The Lexi Blake crossover collection is really shaping up to be a thrilling series; this novella instalment is by an author I am unfamiliar with, but I plan to rectify that asap..it was packed full of interesting characters and plenty of pace…

Shane is an alpha protector bodyguard and his main focus is the gorgeous, ‘brainiac’ Talia; a scientist on the run….I loved these two main characters and their relationship, which comes with a second chance romance label…As an extra special treat, for Masters and Mercenaries fans, characters from McKay/Taggart make an appearance ..

This was one of those short stories that felt like a full length novel because so much happens and there are no wasted moments..there is also a satisfying epilogue as an added bonus…
