One Too Many by Jade West

A filthy proposition.
Too much money to say no.
One dirty night in a stranger’s bed.

While my husband watches.

I actually really enjoyed this read, and I was surprised about it—because this is not like anything I think I’ve ever read before. Despite my enjoyment, it took me longer than usual to finish this, because it’s a lengthy read. In fact, much as I’m not particularly a fan of duets, this is something I found had two very distinct acts, and could have benefited from being released as two shorter instalments.

The erotica was typical of West—no holds barred, pushing the boundaries—but so was the emotion. There were aspects of this that I found quite difficult to read, creating a feeling in my stomach because I was rooting so much for Brett and Grace. I wasn’t so keen on Thomas, despite understanding his motivations, and it felt like his development was a little rapid (again, a duet would perhaps have been more appropriate here).

The strongest aspect was how West successfully made me feel for these characters, and that’s something I’ll carry with me. It’s wonderful to read about a couple already married, which makes this feel more new adult to me than romance—and I very much loved the development and realisations of the characters throughout these pages, including what I consider the best type of ending.
