TOUR & REVIEW: Misti Murphy – Playing Royal

If the glass slipper fits…

It’s hard to remember that love is a fairy tale when he comes to my bar.

He’s a complete stranger, an escort, an actor.

Now I’m playing his princess.

I don’t love the pretense, but the glimpses of the real man, those I crave.

Until the clock strikes midnight and this Cinderella finds out what the real stakes are.

An escort? That might be who I pretend to be. In reality? A crown prince.

I’ve been running from who I am for so long that I ran into a problem.

A pretty, dark haired, hazel-eyed, problem.

A girl who is all wrong for the life I’m supposed to lead.

The bigger problem? I like who I am when I’m with her.

Not the escort.

Not the prince.

The real me.

But it can’t last, not when my real life is catching up with me.

Can it?

Heat: 4/5
Plot: 2/5
Rating: 3/5
Despite the ridiculous nature of the ‘prince-meets-girl’ plot, this is one of those fairytale stories that makes one feel that awful fluffy feeling inside, like a little girl. I just couldn’t help but be wrapped up in this rags-to-riches Cinderella story, full of insta-love and insta-boners (this is also Murphy’s most erotic novel to date). There was room for a lot more humour; there were a few scenes towards the beginning of the novel which made me chuckle a lot, and I felt this could have been more prevalent throughout to provide this story with a bit more substance. Indeed, the main issue is that there just wasn’t a subplot, and the idea of the Vice Agency was no longer as necessary as it was to Kiss Chasey. So everything was hingeing on the romance. But this also means that all thought processes were repetitive and irritating, reasons why they could not be together but wanted to be together – constantly. This is something present in Murphy’s other works too, and although her writing has matured greatly in other areas, this one still needs some work (as does the use of “cum” as a verb).

Yet, despite these flaws, I found myself wrapped up in this far-fetched whirlwind love affair, and very much enjoying their story – most notably one very erotic scene involving a club and a toy.
