REVIEW: Walk – Cora Brent

28671552Title: Walk
Author: Cora Brent
Series: Gentry Boys #6 (standalone in a series)
Genre: romance
Rating: ****

This book is in no way perfect; a lot of it felt like an attempt to appease loyal readers with complicated family histories and perfect relationships from the previous instalments, as much as setting up the next book. However, the emotion and attachment I felt towards the characters and their histories massively boosted my opinion of it.

If he’d wanted more I would have let him take it. Just like that. Some virtual stranger.

Brent has focused, despite this being a romance, on the two main characters overcoming their pasts and their problems whilst finding comfort and solace in one another – the romance story, in some respects, fades into the background in many places to take the place of the subplot. That being said, it is also really nice and refreshing to have a relationship with no forced angst; there were one or two occasions but it felt true to the characters, and was resolved with the maturity I would have expected from the two characters.

I was drawn in and I believed, and yes, I had a tear or two in a few places. And Stone is definitely being added to my picky list of book boyfriends. A really good read despite its flaws.
